When participants arrive at the clinic, they will receive the following tests: blood pressure, an electrocardiogram, hearing, lung function, oral examination, nutritional assessment, physical activity assessment, and home sleep monitoring. All staff have completed extensive training in clinical procedures. All team members do a series of clinical exams and must be certified to work in the study. The clinical team is made up of eight health interviewers, all of whom are cross trained to administer several of the eight exams.
There are four dental hygienists who administer the dental evaluation and three nutritionists who administer the nutritional evaluation. The study has two phlebotomists who draw blood for the lab exam and a lab supervisor. To ensure that all participants receive the treatment they deserve and are seen in a timely manner, the clinics have a project coordinator, Karen Mancera-Cuevas, and 3 assistant coordinators.
